This is a course in Giltwood Frame and Object restoration.
Students are encouraged to bring their own objects, typically gilded frames or other gilded objects for repair and restoration. This is a five day course and, depending upon the items under consideration, we will be covering the following topics:
Investigation, plan, cleaning and making basic repairs by casting, modelling or carving.
Gesso and putty repairs
Gesso smoothing, application of bole and Water Gilding
Oil Gilding, toning, and distressing to match in repairs
This course is suitable for anyone wishing to master basic gilding techniques and restore items sympathetically that are worn or damaged,
